Apr 5, 2021

The 2nd installment of our Liberation School Interview series features Dr. Jared A. Ball on the topic of his 2020 book, The myth and propaganda of Black buying power (Palgrave Macmillan). Exposing the myth and marketing strategy that the path to freedom lies through consumption and financial literacy, the book details and documents its history, demonstrating and the ways it continues to function to blame Black communities for their own oppression. In doing so, it clears space for a real understanding of the struggle for Black liberation.

Dr. Ball is a father, husband, and Professor of Communication and Africana Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the founder and curator of imixwhatilike.org, a multimedia hub of emancipatory journalism and revolutionary beat reporting. You can read a review of his book here.
